More Drill and Practice Ideas
Another great drill and practice activity is to dictate consonant-vowel-consonant words for children to spell. I like to do this using both real and nonsense words – it really helps to develop letter-sound correspondence.Paper and individual white boards work well butchildren respond especially well to a ‘gimmick’. My studentswere so excited if I brought out the Gelboards (www.gelboard.com) to practice spelling. Another fun one I found was the Kleen Slate (www.kleenslate.com) – a handheld ping-pong stylebat with a lined and plain dry erase board on either side. When children have finished their word, they can hold it up for you to see.
